Dear Members of the AIT Community,
I am pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Krishna R. Salin, Dr. Indrajit Pal, Dr. Sarawut Ninsawat and Dr. Wenchao Xue from the rank of Associate Professor to Full Professor, following the approval of the Board of the Trustees at its meeting held on the 20th of August 2026.
Dr. Krishna R. Salin joined AIT in August 2014 as an Assistant Professor in Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management (AARM), an academic program under the former School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD). He was promoted to Associate Professor in January 2018. He obtained his Ph.D. in Mariculture from the Central Institute of Fisheries Education (Deemed University), Mumbai, India, in 2003. He also earned his Master of Fisheries Science in Aquaculture in 1997 and Bachelor of Fisheries Science in 1994 from Kerala Agricultural University, India. Dr. Salin’s research encompasses cleaner aquaculture production systems, applied genetics in aquaculture, stock improvement and management, aquaculture-environment interactions, innovative hatchery techniques for fish and crustaceans, and climate-smart fisheries and aquaculture production and consumption. His professional distinctions include receiving the Australian Endeavour Award, the Cutting-Edge Research Enhancement and Scientific Training Award, and the Merit Award of the Asian Fisheries Society. Beyond AIT, he has served as President and elected Director of the World Aquaculture Society-Asia Pacific Chapter, Honorary Director of the Network for the Development of Agricultural Cooperatives in Asia and the Pacific, and an editor or associate editor of several international journals in aquaculture and fisheries. At AIT, he chaired the AARM Academic program and the Doctoral Progress Review Committee and served on the Research Ethics Review Committee.
Dr. Indrajit Pal joined AIT in December 2014 as an Assistant Professor in Disaster Preparedness, Mitigation and Management (DPMM), originally an interdisciplinary program jointly administered by the former SET and SERD. He was promoted to Associate Professor in November 2021. He obtained his Ph.D. in Geography and Geology and Geophysics from Vidyasagar University and the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India, in 2009. He also earned his Master of Arts in Sociology from H.N.B. Garhwal University in 2011 and Master of Science in Geology from Jadavpur University in 2001. Dr. Pal's research focuses on disaster risk governance and policy, disaster risk reduction and resilience, GIS and remote sensing applications in disaster risk management, climate change adaptation, community-based disaster risk management, critical infrastructure risk, systemic and cascading risks, and public health risk assessment. His professional distinctions include being named a Fellow of the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and serving as a Visiting Professor at Keio University. Beyond AIT, he has served as an adviser to the Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System, a board member of the Global Alliance of Disaster Research Institutes, and a working group member of the Himalayan University Consortium. At AIT, he chaired the DPMM Academic program and served on the Faculty Relations Committee and Doctoral Progress Review Committee.
Dr. Sarawut Ninsawat was appointed Assistant Professor in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (RSGIS), an academic program under the former School of Engineering and Technology (SET), in July 2015. He was promoted to Associate Professor in November 2021. He obtained his Doctor of Creative Cities in Urban Information from Osaka City University, Japan, in 2009. He also earned his Master of Science in Space Technology Applications and Research from AIT in 2002 and Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Silpakorn University, Thailand, in 2000. Dr. Ninsawat’s research encompasses applications of machine learning, remote sensing, and GIS in agriculture and natural resource management, web-mapping applications and frameworks, Open Geospatial Consortium web services, and location-based applications for logistics. His academic distinctions include receiving the Monbukagakusho Scholarship, a prestigious national scholarship awarded by the Government of Japan, to pursue his doctoral studies at Osaka City University. Beyond AIT, he has served on national committees concerning fundamental geospatial data and disaster management, including committees under Thailand’s National Geo-Informatics Committee and Senate. He also serves as a Board Member of the Geographic Association of Thailand and is a Charter Member of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation, a global nonprofit organization that advances the development and worldwide adoption of open-source geospatial technologies. He also represents the Foundation’s Thailand Local Chapter. At AIT, he currently serves as Dean of the Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology. He served as Head of the Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) Department and Chair of the RSGIS Program.
Dr. Wenchao Xue joined AIT in April 2018 as an Assistant Professor in Environmental Engineering and Management (EEM), an academic program under the former School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD). She was promoted to Associate Professor in July 2022. Dr. Xue obtained her Ph.D. in Urban Engineering from The University of Tokyo, Japan, in 2013. She also earned her Master of Engineering in Environmental Engineering in 2010 and Bachelor of Engineering in Water Supply and Sewage System Engineering in 2008 from Tsinghua University, China. Dr. Xue’s research encompasses environmental membrane and electrochemical technologies, resource- and energy-productive wastewater treatment, sustainable watershed environmental management, microplastic pollution in aquatic environments, and the monitoring and elimination of emerging contaminants. Her professional distinctions include selection as a UNESCO–The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) Young Affiliate for East and Southeast Asia, a highly selective six-year recognition for outstanding scientists within its global network. Beyond AIT, she serves as a Senior Advisor to the All-China Environment Federation, Co-Chair of the Chinese Academy of Sciences-supported Digital Belt and Road Task Force on Big Earth Data in Support of the Sustainable Development Goals in Southeast Asia (DBAR-SEA), and Secretary to Thailand’s National Committee for the Digital Belt and Road International Science Program. At AIT, she is the founding Director of the AIT Belt and Road Research Center, chairs the EEM Academic program, and has served on the Academic Development and Review Committee and Sustainable Campus Committee.

2) AIT welcomes Dr. Milad Armani Dehghani, Associate Professor, School of Management

Dear Members of the AIT Community,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Milad Armani Dehghani as a new faculty member in the School of Management.
Dr. Milad Armani Dehghani has joined us as an Associate Professor in the School of Management. Alongside his faculty appointment, he has also been appointed as the MBA Program Director. He received his PhD in Technology Management & Industrial Engineering from Sapienza University of Rome, Italy. He has over a decade of international academic and professional experience across the UK, Ireland, Hong Kong, Canada, and Southeast Asia.
His work sits at the intersection of FinTech, digital innovation, patent analytics, IP strategy, and emerging technology commercialisation, including AI and blockchain. His previous roles include Senior Research Fellow in FinTech at Nottingham Business School, alongside adjunct faculty appointments across multiple universities internationally. Dr. Armani is the inventor of three FinTech-related intellectual properties and the founder of the FinTech start-up LayawayGo, an AI-enabled savings and payment platform designed to promote responsible consumption and financial wellbeing. His research has been published in leading journals, including the Journal of Business Research, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, and other internationally recognised outlet.

8) Campus GHG Emissions Report—AIT's Net Zero 2030 Journey—Every Action & Idea Counts

AIT’s journey to Net Zero 2030 is progressing—and every one of us has a role to play.
AIT’s total campus GHG emissions in 2025 were 8,770 tCO₂e, down from 9,221 tCO₂e in 2024 and 9,629 tCO₂e in 2023—a 4.89% reduction from 2024 and 8.92% reduction from 2023.
While AIT continues to advance major initiatives in renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable transportation, waste and water management, and Nature-based Solutions (NbS), achieving Net Zero cannot happen through infrastructure projects alone. Community participation is equally important. For more comprehensive information, please refer to the attached report. This course introduces participants to Nile tilapia aquaculture, covering the complete production cycle from hatchery-based seed production and nursery management to grow-out systems and fish health management. Through expert-led lectures, hands-on practical sessions, and technical visits to commercial hatcheries and farms in Thailand, participants will gain practical knowledge and technical skills to support efficient and sustainable tilapia production.
This program covers:
1. Nile tilapia strains, culture systems, and aquaculture trends in Asia
2. Broodstock selection, hatchery management, and seed production including sex-reversal and mono-sex fry production
3. Larval rearing, nursery management, and fry transportation
4. Grow-out systems: pond culture, cage culture, Biofloc technology, and RAS
5. Water quality management and pond/tank preparation
6. Fish health management, disease diagnostics (including PCR-based methods), and biosecurity
7. Farm design: hatchery tanks, incubation units, nursery and grow-out pond/tank layout

Course Introduction
This course introduces participants to integrated mud crab hatchery and farming systems, covering the complete production cycle from broodstock management and natural hatchery operations to larval rearing, grow-out, fattening, and soft-shell crab production. Through a combination of expert-led lectures, hands-on practical training, laboratory and pond sessions, and technical visits to commercial mud crab farms in Thailand, participants will gain practical knowledge and industry-relevant skills to improve production efficiency, strengthen biosecurity, and promote sustainable mud crab aquaculture.
This program covers:
1. Mud crab species identification, biology, moulting, reproduction, and life cycle
2. The mangrove ecosystem’s role in crab productivity; site selection for pond-based hatcheries
3. Pond design, preparation, and management for mangrove-based natural hatchery systems
4. Broodstock selection, transport, conditioning, and management of berried females for spawning
5. Natural larval production: stage identification, live-feed culture (microalgae, rotifers, Artemia), and feeding schedules
6. Water quality management (salinity, temperature, DO, pH, ammonia, alkalinity)
7. Nursery rearing: stocking density, shelter/substrate management, feeding, grading, and cannibalism reduction
8. Grow-out, fattening, and soft-shell crab production — stocking, feeding, moult induction, and harvest timing
9. Disease management, biosecurity, predator control, and post-harvest handling
10. Farm economics, marketing channels, and Group Action Plan (GAP) development

6) The International Conference on Sustainable Energy (ICUE 2026)
The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) is proud to host the International Conference on sUstainable Energy (ICUE 2026) from 28–30 October 2026 in Thailand. Technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Power and Energy Society (IEEE PES), this year’s ICUE edition focuses on the intersection of climate goals, energy security, and digital innovation under the theme “Achieving Energy Security and Climate Goals through Sustainable and Smart Solutions”.

Organizer Requirements:
• Session Scope: Titles and themes must align with ICUE 2026 Key Conference Themes.
• Composition: Each session requires at least 10 fully paid/registered papers and at least one contributor from overseas.
• Logistics: One organizer must be physically present at the venue to conduct the session.
• Application: Submit the official form including a session title, abstract (200–300 words), technical outline (150–180 words), and organizer CVs.
Organizer Benefits:
• Registration Waivers: Main organizers receive a 50% to 75% fee waiver based on the number of registered papers (10 or 15), inclusive of a lead paper.
• Accommodation: One twin-bed sharing room at the AIT Conference Center hotel is provided during the conference dates. Airfare, local transportation, and allowance will not be provided.
