1. Farewell and Thank You Message from AIT President Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto

Email from AIT President on 30 August 2024

Dear AIT Community,

As I prepare to step down as President of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), I want to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude for the support and collaboration I have received throughout my tenure from the AIT family. It has been a remarkable journey filled with challenges and achievements, and I am proud of what we have accomplished together.

During my presidency, in line with the Board's recommendations, I have focused my efforts on enhancing AIT's financial sustainability and advancing our transformation process. I believe we have collectively made substantial progress on several fronts. One of the main challenges we faced post-Covid was enrollment. Through collective efforts and innovative strategies, we not only met but have exceeded our targets, achieving the highest enrollment in over a decade.

I am also grateful for the strong partnerships we have built with governments, institutions, and organizations around the world, which have enhanced AIT's global presence and reputation. We have also launched impactful initiatives such as the "Botanical Garden Campus Towards Net Zero" and "Solar Rooftop Project", which reflects our commitment to sustainability and innovation. The launch of the Global Water & Sanitation Center, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, has positioned AIT as a leader in addressing critical water and sanitation issues.

I am confident that my successor, Professor Pai-Chi Li, will continue to build on this foundation and lead AIT into an exciting future. I have had the opportunity to interact with Professor Li over the past few months so as to ensure a smooth transition, and I wish him every success in this new role.

As I transition to the next chapter of my life, I carry with me cherished memories and invaluable experiences from my time here. My 37-year association with AIT began in 1987 as a Government of Japan seconded faculty member, and then later as Vice President for Resource Development and Vice President for Administration which was a joint appointment with the University of Tokyo, and last two years as President of AIT.

In closing, I want to thank each of you for your trust and support. It has been an honor to serve as your President, and I look forward to seeing AIT continue to reach new heights.

5) AITAA Lifetime Membership Fee Collection

Email from Office of Student Affairs on 19 August 2024

Dear Students,

The AIT Alumni Association (AITAA) has requested that we facilitate the automatic collection of the AITAA lifetime membership fee. After careful consideration, the AIT Management Team has agreed to implement this process. This initiative is designed to streamline membership enrollment and ensure that all graduating students can easily benefit from AITAA’s support and network. (Please refer to the attached AITAA-PPT for more details.)

Guidelines for AITAA Lifetime Membership Fee Collection:

The AITAA lifetime membership fee of THB 1,000 will be added to the invoice section in the student information system (SIS/SOMSIS) for all graduating students in their final term or semester.

Payment of the membership fee is encouraged but not mandatory for graduation. Students who meet all other graduation requirements but choose not to pay the fee will still be eligible to graduate.

Graduating students who opt out of paying the membership fee will be listed as "Non-paying AIT Graduates" and may not be able to access the benefits provided by AITAA.

At the end of each term/semester, the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), through the Office of Advancement and Alumni Affair (OAAA), will provide AITAA with:

A list of students who have paid the membership fee and the total amount collected.

A list of students who have not paid the membership fee.

The collected membership fees will be transferred to AITAA twice a year, in January and June. A 10% collection fee will be deducted, which will be internally allocated to support student welfare initiatives for current and continuing students.

We believe this process will strengthen the connection between our students and the AIT alumni network, providing lasting benefits and valuable support.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
