(i) We are with Lao People !

Message from AIT President (25 Jul. 2018)

https://www.facebook.com/worsak.ait/posts/912843848900584

I am greatly saddened by the dam break disaster in the southern Laos province of Attapeu on the evening of Monday, July 23.

When the dam burst, massive amount of water was suddenly released on many unsuspecting villages that lay directly in its path on the plains below.

This impacted area is a very rural, remote and poor part of the country. Sadly, reports are coming in of the great scale of human and physical suffering and loss. So far there are thought to be many hundreds of victims and many thousands of people have been displaced and lost their homes and dwellings by the enormous flood waters. The losses are expected to rise dramatically in the coming days, as the water recedes. It is a terrible disaster for our partner the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

On behalf of Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the people and government of the Lao PDR. AIT stands ready to partner with Laos and others to assist rebuilding efforts of communities so devastated by this disaster.

How can you help?

The Embassy of the Lao PDR in Bangkok, Thailand, has established an online bank account for those who wish to donate financially to support Laos’ rehabilitation and relief efforts.

(ii) Accident at the Swimming Pool

Email from AIT President (25 Jul. 2018)

Dear Members of the AIT Community

It is with deep sorrow to inform you that Mr. Md. Rashedul Basher, a professional master student in Banking and Finance of the School of Management (SOM) drowned and died due to muscle cramp while swimming at the AIT swimming pool on July 24, 2018. The incident occurred around 5:45 pm.

AIT has informed the officials of the Bangladesh Embassy as well as the elder sister of the student in Bangladesh. The institute will arrange all formalities for the transfer of his body to Bangladesh in coordination with the Bangladesh Embassy at Bangkok.

I was reported that this tragic accident happened despite the attendance of the Life Guard at the swimming pool. The Life Guard, several staff and an AIT’s nurse have tried to rescue the victim without success. Nevertheless, I have asked the Director of OFAM to investigate and submit a report on how we can prevent this kind of accidents in the future.

On behalf of the entire AIT community, I would like to extend our sincere and heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends and wish his soul to rest in peace.

Regards,
Professor Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai
AIT President

(viii) Online Performance Appraisal 2018 (covering the period 1 July 2017-30 June 2018)

Email from OHRS (2 Jul. 2018)

To all concerned immediate supervisors and Unit Heads of direct-hire (centrally-funded) staff members,

Please be informed that the online performance appraisal for this year 2018, covering the period from 1 July 2017 to 30 June 2018 is now open.

The annual online performance appraisal process was implemented since July 2014 following the approval of the AIT Management.

The online system can be accessed through the “PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL” link in the HRIS menu (https://hris.ait.ac.th ).  The immediate supervisors can complete the individual Performance Appraisal Reports for all the employees under their supervision, and individually (electronically) submit them.  The Unit Heads shall then review and endorse all completed Performance Appraisal Reports not later than 18 August 2018.

The online / web-based system archived the appraisal results since year 2014 (“Appraisal History” link in the HRIS menu) and will build up annual data that will be available to unit heads / immediate supervisors and AIT Management.  The process will be carried out in conjunction with the annual budget process.  Based on the annual performance appraisal results, which will be used for the purpose of determining the annual salary adjustment and staff training and development needs, financial implications can be taken into consideration in the following fiscal year’s budgets.  Please note that those with no performance evaluations will not be considered for any performance-based merit payments and/or salary increments.

Should you encounter technical problems, please report them to Helpdesk (helpdesk@ait.asia).  Please convey other feedback to

HRO (hro@ait.asia ).
