(i)    SOM Welcomes new Visiting Associate Professors seconded by Indian Government

AIT School of Management (SOM) is pleased to welcome Dr. Veena Bansal and Dr. Siddhartha K. Rastogi, Visiting Associate Professors seconded by the Government of India this August 2016 semester.

Dr. Veena Bansal is an Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial and Management Engineering (IME) at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur where she serves as a full time faculty member since 1999.

Dr. Bansal obtained her PhD in Computer Sc. & Eng. from IIT Kanpur (1999); M.S. from University of Connecticut, USA (1987); and B.E. from Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College, Allahabad (1984). Her areas of specialization are OCR, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems, Information Systems and their adoption.

Dr. Bansal is particularly proud of an algorithm that she has developed for Devanagari Character Segmentation (published in Pattern Recognition Journal, pp 875-893, (35) 2002). It is still being used by both academic and commercial researchers working with OCR/ICR of Indian scripts.  Dr. Bansal’s book ‘Enterprise Resource Planning: A Managerial Perspective, Pearson, 2013’ was written based on her personal experience of implementing ERP systems in the commercial sector.  This book has now been chosen as a text book by select universities within India.  Her total number of citations is 585, h-index 10 and i-index 13 as per Google Scholar.

Dr. Siddhartha K. Rastogi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore, where he serves as a full time faculty member since 2010.

Dr. Rastogi graduated with Fellow Program in Management (Doctoral Title) in Economics from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad in 2010. He earned a Master of Commerce in Applied Economics (2004) and a Bachelor in Commerce (2002) from the University of Lucknow.

His teaching interests include microeconomics, international economics, public policy, and game theory.  His primary research interest is the role of public policy in promotion of trade. His research papers (published/ conference) include streams of economics as diverse as fiscal policy, public policy, sports economics, trade and agriculture, social infrastructure, and development economics.  He has published book chapters, journal papers, cases, and newspaper articles. In addition, he has attended several national and international level conferences.

(ii)    SET welcomes new Visiting Professor - Prof. Antaryami Mishra

AIT School of Engineering and Technology (SET) is pleased to welcome  Prof. Antaryami Mishra, who has joined Industrial Systems Engineering Field of Study, as a Visiting Professor.

Prof. Antaryami Mishra is the Professor and Head of the Departments of Mechanical and Production Engineering at Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology,Sarang,Odisha,India. He has worked at M/s Larsen and Tubro Ltd. Kansbahal Works  (Heavy Engineering manufacturing unit) from 1980 to 1988. Since 4th June 1988 he is serving as a full time faculty at this institute. He has served as Director of this Institute from 2007 to 2012. He was Chairman of Joint entrance examination of Odisha State for five times. He has also served as an expert member to AICTE, UPSC,OPSC, NBA etc. and received four national awards.

He is a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from University College of Engineering, Burla in 1980 and did his Masters degree in Machine Design and Analysis from Regional Engineering College, Rourkela(NIT) in 1985. He obtained his Ph.D from  Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur in 1998 in the field of Biomedical Engineering. He is also a national faculty in Entrepreneurship. His areas of research interest are Advanced materials, Composites, Biomedical Engineering, Finite element methods in engineering, ANN, Flexible manufacturing systems and supply chain management etc. He has published around 50 research papers in national and international journals.

(v)    Scholarships for Summer School, 3-8 October 2016 at Ateneo de Manila University Philippines (ADMU)

Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines and Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR), Heidelberg University, Germany, are jointly organizing a summer school in Manila, Philippines from 3-8 October 2016.

The Summer School brings together experts from Germany and the Philippines to lecture on various topics of Scientific Computing.

Main topics for Summer School on Applied Mathematics and Scientific Computing are “Partial Differential Equations with application in Environmental Physics”.

(i)    Blood Donation: 6 Sept. 2016

The Thai Red Cross Society has been working with volunteer students and staff to collect units of blood from the AIT community. The bloodmobile visits AIT every three months, four times a year, to collect enough units to supply the constant demand for blood.

The next visit for blood donation is scheduled on Tuesday 6 September 2016, 9:00 - 11:30 a.m. at the parking lot in front of the AIT Conference Center.

Give blood! You'll experience a fulfilling sense of contribution. And the donation process takes only half an hour.

(ii)    Presentation on Sumitomo Foundation, Japan Grant for Fiscal Year 2016: 9 Sept. 2016

Please find below the announcement regarding the Sumitomo Foundation, Japan Grant for Fiscal Year 2016 for Japan Related Research Projects:

 Purpose of the Program:

The program aims at enhancing mutual understanding between Asian countries and Japan through promoting research projects in the field of the social sciences or humanities that are related to Japan.

 Eligible Projects for Application:

Any research project to be carried out by individual or a group in the field of the social sciences or humanities related to Japan.

Qualification of Applicant:

Researcher shall be of Asian (non-Japanese) nationality, living outside Japan. Awarded researcher must conduct the proposed research by himself or herself.

Fiscal 2016 Program:
Application period: September 1 ~ October 31, 2016

Grant period: One year (April 2017 through March 2018), but can be extended by another one year maximum if required.

Grant budget: Approximately 50 million Japanese Yen in total (Maximum 2 million Japanese Yen per Project).

Application:

The Application Form duly filled in and signed shall be submitted together with a letter of recommendation, free-form from a person with an academic background by registered airmail.

(iv)    Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation Course: 7 Oct – 28 Oct. 2016

AIT Extension will organize a course, “Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation” from 7 Oct 2016 - 28 Oct 2016.

The Project Management Monitoring and Evaluation course is a two-week training program that balances theory with practice. PMME will help participants steer work process towards clearly defined goals, increase program impact, and improve the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of projects and teams both small and large.

The program integrates views and experience of seasoned project managers, policy makers and academics about project management skills with field visits to projects in Thailand.

(v)    Design of Tall Buildings: Trends and Advancements for Structural Performance: 7 – 9 Nov. 2016 (seminar) and 10 - 12 Nov. 2016 (workshop)

AIT Solutions will organize the “Design of Tall Buildings: Trends and Advancements for Structural Performance” Seminar and Workshop from 7 – 9 November and 10 – 12 November 2016, respectively.

The event will provide participants with an insight to the new developments in tall building design, innovative structural systems for better performance and in-depth understanding of structural behavior and highlight the value of wind tunnel test, probabilistic seismic hazard assessment, peer reviews and performance-based design. It also will focus on hands on understanding of modeling and analysis.

C. Campus Updates

 

 

(i)    Removal of all unused bicycles and motor cycles parked for long time

The Office of Facilities and Asset Management (OFAM) has observed that many unusable bicycles and motor cycles are left  in parking areas, for several months already.

For effective usage of the parking areas, OFAM requests the owners to remove them before 9 September 2016. After this period Security Guard will take all those bicycles and motor cycles to gate-1 Security Office.

Respective owners may contact security office at gate-1 before 31st October 2016 to claim, otherwise, all unclaimed bicycles and motor cycles will be disposed off properly.

(ii)    Paolo Memorial Hospital will no longer be under Social Security Fund effective 1 January 2017

Please be informed that effective from 1 January 2017, Paolo Memorial Hospital in Sapan Kwai will no longer be under the Social Security Fund.
If any Social Security Members have registered Paolo Memorial Hospital under your Social Security Fund, please inform the Office of the Human Resources Services  (OHRS) for its replacement on or before 30 September 2016.  

(iii)    Architectural project work by Thammasat students in AIT Campus

Please be informed that few architecture students of Faculty of Architectural and Planning, Thammasat University, are now visiting few areas in AIT campus from 30 August - 10 September 2016 between 9:30 to 16:30 hrs., to take measurements and make sketches of few student village buildings, AITCC building, Administration building, Cafeteria and SU cafe building as part of their project work.
