(i) URGENT : Contract Renewal Issue
Email from President: 1 June 2017
Dear Colleagues
The performance evaluation of faculty and staff whose contract ends on December 31, 2017 needs to start. This step is necessary as we were reminded by our Compliance Officer to comply with our P&P on the contract renewal. The related P&P stipulates that all our employees must be informed 6 months in advance before the end of their contract whether their contracts will be renewed.
Thus I request the OHRS, as soon as possible, to provide a list of AIT employees whose contacts end on this December 31 to Deans and RC Directors to evaluate and recommend the result to me by 20 June 2017. If we do not receive a recommendation on renewal for any employee by this date, the OHRS will notify the employee that his or her contract will not be renewed.
For Faculty, the VPAA will communicate with the Deans how the evaluation process should be done.
Sorry for the urgency of this exercise as it was brought to my attention only recently. For next year, we will try to come up with a better process, or to revise the P&P if it is deemed impractical.
By local Thai Laws, the employers only need one month to give notice of employment termination. The AIT's 6-month advance notice also applies to employees who want to resign from AIT, but this was not strictly observed.
Note that the evaluation results will also be used to determine the merit increment at the year end.

(iv) Call for proposals: Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) 2017-2018 - Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand
The Embassy of Canada in Thailand and Canada’s Diplomatic Offices in Cambodia and Laos are pleased to launch their annual call for proposals for the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).
Program description:
The CFLI is a targeted small-grants program, directly managed by the Embassy of Canada in Thailand, designed to fund visible, high impact, results-oriented projects. In general, CFLI projects are locally designed and implemented, making the program highly responsive to local needs and interests.
Thematic Priorities:
Eligible CFLI projects in Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand must address one or more of the thematic priorities outlined below, based on their proposed country of implementation.
Cambodia: The CFLI thematic priorities for Cambodia in 2017-2018 are:
1. Empowering women and girls and promoting gender equality
2. Championing human rights, inclusive and accountable governance, democracy, peaceful pluralism, and respect for diversity
3. Promoting peace and security
Laos: The CFLI thematic priorities for Laos in 2017-2018 are:
1. Promoting human development, specifically in the areas of health, nutrition, and education
2. Championing human rights, inclusive and accountable governance, democracy, peaceful pluralism, and respect for diversity
3. Promoting action on the environment, including water and climate change
Thailand: The CFLI thematic priorities for Thailand in 2017-2018 are:
1. Empowering women and girls and promoting gender equality
2. Championing human rights, inclusive and accountable governance, democracy, peaceful pluralism, and respect for diversity
3. Promoting action on the environment, including water and climate change
Available Funding:
The average CFLI contribution is C$15,000 to C$30,000 Canadian Dollars (C$50,000 is the maximum allocation amount for a project). Consult the currency converter for local currency equivalents. Please note that all contributions are made in Canadian dollars.
Term of Projects:
All projects must be completed between the date of signature of the Contribution Agreement and 28 February 2018. It is expected that Contribution Agreements for selected projects will be signed in August 2017.
Process to Submit a Proposal:
• Deadline for submission is Friday, 9 June 2017 at 17.00 hrs. Applications submitted after this deadline will not be considered.

• Proposals should be submitted electronically to the following e-mail: canadafund.bkk@gmail.com
• Only those proposals using the designated application form and including the required budget document will be considered.
• Proposals must be completed in English or French.
• As required in the project narrative of the application form, each proposal must explicitly answer all questions and summarize all project activities. The proposed project budget must reflect the costs associated with each project activity.
• Applications will be assessed for approval on their merits by a Selection Committee.
• Due to the large number of applicants, only the successful candidates will be contacted.

(v) ASEAN-US Women's Science Prize Launched
The third annual ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women was launched on 3 May 2017 by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), in partnership with Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a global safety science company.

(i) EVENTS
(a) Blood Donation: 8 June 2017
The Thai Red Cross Society has been working with volunteer students and staff to collect units of blood from the AIT community. The bloodmobile visits AIT every three months, four times a year, hoping to collect enough units to supply the constant demand for blood.
We again would like to ask for your help. The next visit for blood donation is scheduled on Thursday, 8 June 2017, 9:00 - 11:30 a.m. at the parking lot in front of the AIT Conference Center.

(i) Electricity supply shut off to Habitech building and Fish farm on Monday 5th June 2017
Please be informed that Office of Facilities and Asset Management (OFAM) will repair electric wire that has short circuited behind ST3. That will require to the shut off of the main electricity supply to few buildings on Monday, 5 June 2017.

(ii) AC unit cleaning service for SERD Building
Please be informed that maintenance technicians will enter SERD Building for AC unit cleaning as a part of Office of Facilities and Asset Management (OFAM)’s preventive maintenance routine throughout the month of June.
The secretaries of the unit are requested to kindly support OFAM technicians to open the rooms.
It is advisable for the tenants/Users of the room to store their valuables away in a safe place to prevent them from being misplaced or damaged during the process of maintenance.
