(i)    Final write-up on English Requirements
Email from President: 5 April 2017

Dear Colleagues

Based on the agreement in the last Management Team, the final write up has been prepared by LC. Please note the following:

(1) AIT encourages qualified applicants to apply, despite their poor English proficiency (IELTS < 6). If they are really good students, we do not want to miss them, but will be ready to help them on board.

(2) For admitted students with IELTS = 6 or better, or from native speaking countries, they can be admitted with no need for English training during their study at AIT.

(3) AIT does admit students with IELTS between 5-6, but AIT will provide English class for them during their program at AIT until they are able to meet the Exit Requirement of IELTS 6.0. However, these students need to pay a one-time flat fee of 5,000 Baht for English class(es) throughout their program. (Note: we did consider free English class but fear that students may not see the value and will not take English classes seriously).

(4) For academically-qualified applicants but with IELTS score of 4.5, AIT offers a bridging program (BP) for 6 weeks before the semester starts. This will help raise their English skills so they can follow the academic courses in the classroom. Since they are potentially good students, Schools are willing to share the half of the BP cost, and students (or their sponsors) will have to shoulder the other half. This applies to academically admissible applicants. Once they pass the BP, we can assume that they can follow the class taught in English. If they are still required to take English classes afterwards (like those with IELTS scores of 5-5.5), they will be exempted from the 5,000 Baht English courses fee.

(5) Although we use IELS as a basis, other English tests including AIT-EET can also be used with equivalent scores.

(6) The attached English Proficiency Requirement will only appear at the Admission Page (managed by Admission Unit), and we expect other related pages such as the School and Department websites to provide a link to this original write-up on the Admission Page.

We invite faculty and staff members to comment and advise if you see any room for improvement and for consistency. As August intake is near, we need to install the write-up on our Admission Page soonest before Songkran holidays.

I thanks LC Acting Director, ML Thanisa and other staff of LC for the kind cooperation.

With regards,

Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai
AIT President

(iv)    Gentle reminder on the use of proper swimsuit when using AIT pool

AIT Student Union reminds everyone on the use of the proper swim attire, due to the following reasons:

1    The use of proper swimwear lessens contamination from water borne illness and contaminants.
Kindly be advised that the usual cotton wears can hold more detergents, germs and bacteria, and thus increases the chances of germs and contaminants to enter the pool, when you use cotton wear. By wearing the proper swimwear, you help the AIT pool stay clean and healthy for all.

2    The use of proper swimwear promotes health.
Kinldy be reminded that cotton absorbs a lot of water and pool chemical and thus when you use cotton wear in the pool, you are absorbing the much-needed pool disinfectant, and which increases the bacteria formation in the formation in the pool and making the pool less healthy to the users

3    The use of proper swimwear is for safety.
Cotton can be heavy when used in the pool. It is not fit to the body and thus increases the chances of underwater entrapment.

By wearing the proper attire, as AITians, we keep our pool safe and healthy for all to enjoy.
