WEEK# 31, 3 - 9 August 2020
In this issue:
1. Return-to-Office and Other Measures from 1 August
Email from the Director, Office of Academic Administration on 1 August 2020.
Dear AIT Family,
This week the Institute welcomes our new intake of students for the Fall Semester. Those who are already on campus please pay heed to these emails from the AIT Covid-19 Task Force which announce measures at AIT to keep the AIT Community safe. Earlier updates are Intranet-published at Covid-19 Updates . However, we do recognize that most of our students from overseas, both new and continuing, will take some time to arrive on campus due to requirements and processes for their entry to Thailand. We know that they will participate in classes through Hybrid Instruction, but we hope they can join us soon.
In this email, the Task Force would like to update the AIT Community on the return-to-office and other measures from 1 August 2020, including the easing of restrictions with some limitations. The TF continues to urge all members of the AIT community to take all guidelines seriously, including those issued earlier until they are changed or lifted.
Return-to-Office from 1 August
Following a full month of gradual cautious integration of the workforce after an extended work-from-home period, all employees are now expected to report to office on a full-time basis from Monday, 3 August 2020. Prior approval must be obtained for all absences, except for sick leave. Unit Heads must continue to ensure that the reconfigurations and recommended social distancing criteria in shared offices and meeting rooms are being complied with.
Food outlets
With effect from 1 August, double seating per table will now be allowed for diners at all food outlets on campus, e.g. Cafeteria, SU Snack Bar, West Lake Restaurant (Som Tam), Hom Krun. Diners will be seated diagonally across each other with empty seats on both sides.
Gatherings
Gatherings for up to 50 persons are now allowed, including for religious services and activities, strictly following social distance of 2 meters apart and in appropriate venues that allow this. Special approval of a larger gathering is given for the Institute-Wide Registration / Orientation for the Fall Semester 2020 Intake on Monday, 3 August 2020, at the Robert B Banks Auditorium, AIT Conference Center. Participating students and concerned employees will be required to comply with the recommended social distancing.
AIT Gates
Gate #3 will be opened for AITIS as it resumes its school year from 3 August. Among other measures, AITIS has put in place temperature checks for children as they arrive school for their classes. Gate #1 continues to be the main entrance to AIT, with Gate #2 accessible for persons to exit, and to receive deliveries.
The TF reminds you to continue to maintain a high level of safety and hygiene measures, like regularly washing your hands, wearing masks in public places and when in the company of people, maintaining social distancing, avoiding large crowds, and please visit the AIT Medical Center if you feel unwell. We must all continue to remain vigilant even as restrictions are being relaxed.
Thank you very much for your continued cooperation and sacrifices to keep our community safe. Please take care, stay safe, and remain healthy too.

Email from Student Welfare Unit, Office of Student Affairs on 30 July 2020
In this regard, the Student Affairs Office, under the oversight of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, has formed an Interim Student Representative Team for the Fall 2020 semester.
The Coordinators of the Team are:
1. Ms. Deepsa Maharjan - SOM
2. Ms. Arlene Gonzales - SERD
3. Mr. Natthanan Promsuk - SET
All of them have been active former SU members and have consented to be on the Interim Team. They will shortly issue a call for student volunteers to be a part of the Interim Team. The major responsibilities of the Team include:
i) assisting students during this challenging period,
ii) organizing student activities,
iii) forming a new General Assembly (GA) to assist the Team to perform its duties, and
iv) holding the new SU election as soon as possible.
The elected student will join the Interim Team, as Coordinator of the Team, and as the new SU Vice President for this Fall semester. He/She will later become the SU President in the Spring (January) 2021 semester.
Given the seriousness of the Covid-19 pandemic around the globe, this coming semester will be very challenging for all of us. We look forward to our students taking part in the Interim Team, GA, the upcoming election and student activities in the coming Fall semester.
