ii) Updated Information as of 6 February 2020 on Safety and Precautionary Measures Regarding Coronavirus (2019-nCov)
E-mail sent from Vice President for Administration on 6 February 2020
Dear AIT Community
Since we last communicated with you a week ago, the Coronavirus Task Force wants to provide you with an update of our daily meetings.
On Friday 31 January, the WHO upgraded the coronavirus to a Global Health Emergency.
We have accounted for all AIT students that have been in China since early January 2020. Three students are in quarantine on campus, with the last student scheduled to complete their quarantine on 19 February 2020. Two students are in quarantine at home off-campus, also scheduled to complete their quarantine on 19 February 2020. There are two other AIT students currently in China and, in consultation with AIT, will remain there until a return date is agreed upon later.
We have accounted for all employees/residents/visitors that have been in China since early January 2020. One employee is in quarantine, scheduled to complete their quarantine on 14 February 2020.
Other than reporting daily to the medical center, all those in quarantine are visited by a medical doctor on their 5th, 10th, and 14th day. A medical clearance from a doctor is required prior to returning to daily activities at AIT.
For your information, between 27th and 31st January, the medical center also had visits from five AIT residents who were unwell with flu symptoms, but they were diagnosed with common colds and bronchitis and returned to daily activities. A student at AITIS was diagnosed with Flu A and has since provided a doctors medical clearance, but will only be returning to school next week.
The quarantine facilities, of which there are currently ten in one self-contained dormitory building, have been improved with the provision of portable air conditioning and warm water, if requested. OFAM has been able to arrange the delivery of two meals a day, for those in the quarantined quarters.
Posters to reduce the risk of coronavirus infection have been placed around the campus.
AITIS has been following these AIT regulations and communicating with parents.
At the request of the Thai government, the Immigration Department also visited AIT and accompanied a student to the medical center; as part of a number of random tests been undertaking by the government across the country. The student had no symptoms.
In further discussion with the authorities, we were referred to the website of the Department of Disease Control (DDC); and would recommend also following the Press Release tab. They confirmed the following: If anyone from AIT is referred to Thammasat University Hospital (TUH) and the person has the coronavirus, TUH will report this directly to DDC and representative Officers will undertake an investigation at our AIT campus and provide us with further steps to take. Under such circumstances, the decision whether to separate individuals or close AIT (if needed) will be made after discussion with the Officers.
To keep everyone updated with regards to the Task Force activities, an intranet site has been created. It will be kept up to date daily, and can be found here: Coronavirus Updates.
AIT would like to once again thank everyone for their kind support and understanding, as we make the needed changes to ensure we remain vigilant and adapt to the ever changing circumstances. Please continue to take precautions, by washing your hands regularly, wearing a mask, and avoiding large crowds. This is an extremely serious public health crisis, and we strongly encourage everyone of the AIT family to do his/her part in being cooperative and staying vigilant.
With kind appreciation.

Dear AIT Staffs and Students,
Regional Summit in Thailand on 6-7 March 2020.
Established in 2009, Hult Prize is the world’s largest student competition and the most prestigious award of the planet for the creation of new social enterprises. Each year, the Hult Prize team issues a big bold challenge aligned with a large market opportunity inspiring students from over 121 countries to solve its greatest problem.
AIT had successfully organized the Hult Prize On-Campus Program in October 2019 and now we are partnering with Hult Prize Foundation for the Regional Summit. A total of twenty-two Regional Summits will take place around the world in March and April, and ours is scheduled on 6-7 March 2020. We expect attendance of around 200-250 students (On-Campus winners) from different countries as well as more than 25 speakers and judges from across the globe.
The Regional Summits provide students from around the world an opportunity to showcase their innovative ideas, learn from their peers and be inspired by a generation of young people who are committed to changing the world through business. The very best startups represented at each summit secure a spot in the world’s largest impact accelerator in Boston, Massachusetts, in June, as they compete to be one of six teams who will compete at the United Nations finals in September.
We would like to invite you to participate as volunteers for the Hult Prize Regional Summit.
Kindly please fill in the online form to confirm your participation.
