Through the endorsement of the AIT Management, the President approved the following revised Institute Policy and Procedure (P&P) Statements on Personnel Affairs (PA), with immediate effect:

• II.D.9. Faculty travel will be limited to two weeks (10 working days) during the semester, beyond which endorsement will need to be sought from the School Dean for approval by the President or delegated Vice President.

• (IV.A.2.) Requests to engage faculty and staff members beyond the age of 60 must be submitted to the President six (6) months prior to the end of a retiring faculty / staff member’s final employment contract before reaching the age of 60.
• (IV.A.4.) Retiring full Professors considered for full-time employment after the age of 60, and received a positive recommendation after stringent evaluation procedures (see Annex 1), will be offered a two-year extension of his/her full-time employment with the Institute beyond the age of 60.

(ii) Knovel Ambassador Program at AIT for 2018

Elsevier in co-operation with AIT Library is recruiting 1-2 student ambassadors to promote Knovel at AIT. We are looking for students with the following profiles:
· Basic Engineering Education Background
· Postgraduate
· Able to commit about 10 – 15 hours per month to support Knovel engagement activities including library Knovel training
with the engineering community
· Conduct small-scale Knovel sharing session with his peers & teaching staff
The program will start in July 2018. Pre-training will be provided by Knovel team. Promotional Materials including small give-away will be provided to support the ambassador with their engagement activities.

A Warm Greeting!!
Firstly, I would like to congratulate all the graduates for their achievement and reception of degrees from AIT. You have made your loved ones proud. This is not just the beginning of new chapter in your lives, it is the responsibility to serve and give back. With knowledge you gain power, with power you hold responsibility, the responsibility to make great changes in the world. I wish you good luck for your future endeavors.
The semester has come to an end, and so has the Student Union team of January 2018. Some 8-9 months after my election as the SU Vice President and then the SU President, my journey and my feeling are ecstatic. It has been a great privilege to have held the office of Student Union President at this prestigious international institute. It is now time for new student union to take up responsibilities
I would like to thank all faculties, staff, and the student community for being the backbone of our interest to work. We have always worked hard with motive to fulfilling needs of the students. Your concerns and interests have been the driving strength of SU. Your support to us enhanced our willingness to work. Thank you very much. It was a great honor for me and my team to have served you and we have given you the best we could.
Another tier of representatives of the students, the General Assembly members have been very instrumental in conveying a student need and concerns to the proper stake holders. I would like to thank all the GA Members for their patience, cooperation & suggestions. I'd also like to thank the Election Committee for conducting a fair and smooth election and the food committee for their fair and dedicated work.
The pillars of SU have always been the volunteers of SU. The semester was filled with different activities and events. This would not have been possible without the support of hard working volunteers. Your active involvement and dedication has been the keys for the success stories of SU. I appreciate your interest to serve and I am extremely thankful to all of you for joining SU and for the great service you have done. A big thank you from each and every member of the team.
Similarly, the most important set of people, I must thank my team fellows with whom I worked for the past 5 months. Their potential to do great work is commendable. It was a big opportunity for me to have worked with them. It was the unity and spirit of this team that bound us together and encouraged us to work. I am truly grateful to all my team mates for giving me their fullest support and an unforgettable experience. Thank you and Congratulations to the SU Team.
We have been successful in continuing and introducing new activities; bringing new mats and few equipment to gym and SU Cafe; improving the sitting area near snack bar and improving cart service. We also bought BBQ stand with which the enjoying/ picnic vibes again rejuvenate among members of AIT. I am hopeful that many other unfinished works will be completed by the new SU lead by Mr. Pauk Kyaing Sahm, a confident and a friendly leader. I'd also like to wish Mr. Sahm your soon to be SU President for a very successful and effective tenure, and with that I am sure he will fight for you till the end.
I will continue to support SU and AIT as an alumnus also. Once again, I thank all of you and wish you all good luck.

Greetings from the SU Gender and Culture Committee!
Finally we have come to the end of another great semester filled with variety of events and activities. This semester we organized Cultural Show, Food Fair and Graduation Ball. The committee tried its best to organize all the events in the best possible way. It has truly been a pleasure serving everyone on behalf of the Student Union.
We would like to thank the administration, AITCC, OFAM, staff and faculty members for their incessant support in organizing the events. We would also like to thank all the students for their support and active participation in all the events.
In addition, we also owe debt of gratitude to the volunteers of the committee for all their hard work in organizing the event successfully and the SU Committee for all their support and encouragement.

(v) Reminder of visa and work permit issues

Dear non-Thai Faculty, Staff, and Students
According to an ongoing crackdown on illegal immigrants named "X-Ray Outlaw Foreigners”, police are focusing on schools and universities. Please be reminded of the followings:
1. Visa extension form along with related document must be submitted to GRU at least 2 months before the expiration date in order to avoid being subject to an overstayed fine. The same criteria also apply to your dependants (if any).
2. Using a wrong visa category is illegal. For example, a dependant visa cannot be used for purposes of working.
3. Make sure that your work permit is still valid and be extended before the date of expiration.

(i) EVENTS
(a) Blood Donation: 7 Jun. 2018
The Thai Red Cross Society has been working with volunteer students and staff to collect units of blood from the AIT community. The bloodmobile visits AIT every three months, four times a year, hoping to collect enough units to supply the constant demand for blood.
The next visit for blood donation is scheduled on Thursday, 7th June 2018, 9:00 - 11:30 a.m. at the parking lot in front of the AIT Conference Center.
Give blood! You'll experience a fulfilling sense of contribution. And the donation process isn't time-consuming. It only takes about half an hour.

Dr. Roy Kouwenberg, Associate Professor/ Director of the PhD Program, Mahidol University, College of Management Bangkok, Thailand; and a Visiting Researcher, Erasmus School of Economics, Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Dr. Roy Kouwenberg’s research area is quantitative and empirical finance. His main focus is on behavioral portfolio choice, especially the impact of loss aversion and ambiguity aversion on stock market participation. He has also done extensive research on financial risk management, especially asset-liability management for pension funds and insurance firms. Since moving to Asia, Dr. Roy has also analyzed the corporate governance of listed firms in Asia.
(c) IASC Meeting on Redefining Diversity and Dynamism of Natural Resource Management in Asia: 13 – 16 Jul. 2018
The Asia Region Biennial International Association for the Study of Commons (IASC) meeting on "Redefining Diversity and Dynamism of Natural Resource Management in Asia" will be organized at AIT from 13-16 July 2018.
The event is jointly organized by AIT, Chiang Mai University (CMU), Thailand, Ostrom Center for the Advanced Study in Natural Resource Governance (OCeAN), and the International Association for the Study of Commons (IASC).

(d) AIT-Tiger Leong International Innovation & Leadership Camp: 16 – 26 Jul. 2018
The AIT-Tiger Leong International Innovation and Leadership Camp was launched in 2017 by the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in collaboration with its alumnus Ir. Tiger Leong, President, Ellipse Enterprise Malaysia. The camp brought together bright and talented undergraduate students from top universities in the Asia who were selected based on their leadership potential and excellent academic performance. The camp seeks to emerge as a premier leadership camp for promising students.
As part of AIT’s commitment to promote and train the new generation of students as future innovative leaders, the camp aims to nurture the entrepreneurial skills of young people and encourage them to be innovative through increasing their capacity and knowledge to become leading citizens. Students can gain new knowledge, skills through a combination of workshops, seminars, motivational talks, and site visits to pioneering industries in Thailand. The camp is facilitated by the Innovation Lab at AIT Solutions, a creativity hub dedicated to bringing together students, industries, researchers to develop innovative solutions addressing important social and economic challenges.
(e) ICUE 2018 on Green Energy for Sustainable Development: 24 – 26 Oct. 2018
AIT will organize ICUE 2018 on Green Energy for Sustainable Development from 24 – 26 October 2018 at Thavorn Palm Beach Resort, Karon, Phuket, Thailand.
The organizer has received almost 300 abstracts so far from over 40 different countries.
Still many requests for extension are coming and so the deadline is further moved to 15 May 2018. New submissions can either be abstracts or full papers.
Notification of acceptance for the new submissions will be by 31 May 2018.

(f) 7th Asia Conference on Earthquake Engineering
Seismic Resilience for Safer Cities and Infrastructures: 22-25 Nov 2018
Urbanization is one of the major global challenges of this era. To address the issues related to safety of cities and infrastructure, the 7th Asia Conference on Earthquake Engineering (7ACEE 2018) is being jointly organized by AIT and Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT) in collaboration with the Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines Inc. (ASEP), from 22 – 25 November 2018 in Bangkok.
Engineers, architects, professionals, students, institutes, universities, and organizations are invited to submit abstracts and share their experience under the theme Seismic Resilience for Safer Cities. Download Abstract Template

(iii) COURSES, TRAININGS
(a) LC Bridging Program 2018: 18 June – 26 July
Please be informed that the start of the Bridging Program for this year has been postponed with two weeks to allow more students to enroll. It was noted that for some departments the start of the program comes too soon and that they are still in the process of nominating students.
The updated program dates:
18 June - 26 July (30 hrs of study per week)
Fee: 50,400 THB.
Department 1/2 fee scholarship:
Please note that the AIT-MT has endorsed the opportunity for departments to sponsor students with academic potential with a half fee scholarship. (i..e, the candidate pays 50% and the department sponsors 50% of the fees).
Eligibility:
In brief, the program aims to assist those students with academic potential who do not meet the AIT English language requirements to be ready for admission by August. Candidates eligible to join the program are currently at a level of AIT-EET 4.5 or IELTS equivalent.
Results from the past:
Results from the past have shown that students can make great progress in the development of their English skills over the course of the program and that they feel more confident and better prepared to start their course work in English. Over the years, the LC has been able to prepare all candidates joining the BP to be ready for admission. On average students improve with 0.5 - 1.0 band on the AIT-EET scale / IELTS equivalent.
