AIT NeXUS Task Force
AIT is a niche institution with pockets of competent researchers working rather independently. With her initiative called AIT NeXUS, Prof. Kanchana Kanchanasut, VPR, has proposed to put together AIT’s technologies at one place, the New Zealand Houses, to demonstrate a smart community concept in the era of Inter-net of Things (IoT). The demonstration project will focus on the use of wireless sensor network (WSN) for real-world applications in developing countries. AIT research outcomes from different research groups can be integrated via IoT serving as the binding technology.
This initiative will require a Task Force to study and propose a “Framework of AIT NeXUS”. The Task Force will:
a. outline an initial concept on the goals of NeXUS;
b. identifu research themes with a potential for commercialization, or having an impact on capacity building;
c. identify how to involve the greatest possible number of AIT stakeholders in NeXUS;
d. identify possible methods for evaluating demonstration and showcase projects for socio-economic impacts;
e. propose mentoring for capacity building or commercialization;
f. propose a workable structure and a sustainable financial model for its operations;
g. propose a timeline for implementation; and
h. raise start-up fund for the project until it is sustainable.
With the request of the VPR, AIT President Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai has invited the following individuals to serve as members of the AIT NeXUS Task Force:
1. Prof Kanchana Kanchanasut ( Chair)
2. Dr Thammarat Koottatep (Sanitation)

10. Dr. Weerakorn Ongsakul (Energy)
11. Dr. John Shaw (Training)
12. Dr. Yuosre Badir (Management)
13. OFAM Head (Facilitator)
The Task Force is expected to deliver the “Framework for NeXUS” to the President by 30 September 2015, with clear steps for implementation.
