Search for new Dean of School of Management

Dear Faculty, Staff and Friends

I write to seek your help in distributing the "call for application" for the vacant post of Dean of School of Management (SOM). The suggested guideline on the recruitment of the new Dean as given by the Executive Committee on its meeting of 15 December 2014 reads:

“In order to enhance the reputation of AIT which will attract not only the number, but also the quality of student enrollment, the first step is to recruit a renowned reputable professor to serve as the School Dean by offering a premium compensation package. Without a well-established School Dean, recruitment for rising-star faculty members will always face a problem. Nowadays before top students make a decision regarding their universities, they often look at the profile of faculty members.”

Recently I have written to former faculty and alumni of SOM to seek their advices on the modality of SOM which will empower SOM to become an internationally competitive business school. I appreciated receiving many valuable advices, which mostly pointed to a major paradigm shift that is essential in transforming SOM to Reputable Business School of Asia.

Basically, it is time to separate SOM from the rest of the AIT basket. SOM will be transformed into a semi-autonomous unit within the mission framework of AIT. While administratively, SOM Dean, as CEO, will report directly to AIT President, SOM will have its own School Board composed of appointed internal members as well as external members. SOM should maintain some autonomy in its academic affairs with its own business culture.

With regards,

Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai

AIT President

Fellowship available for January 2016 Semester

Please be informed that RTG fellowship will be available for January 2016 semester; however, each applicant will be granted only 12 credits (25%) RTG fellowship to cover the semester of January 2016. If an applicant needs to be offered more than 12 credits, the excess credits over the first 12 credits must be covered by AIT fellowships under the respective school budget. This will be applied to all schools and we have about 50 @ 12credits altogether to be used up in January. Any amount unused has to be returned to RTG.

Reminder: Warning on downloading copyrighted materials from Internet

AIT Helpdesk would like to remind all AITians that downloading copyrighted material (e.g. movies) is not permitted, it is forbidden by AIT Use Policy, even during end-year break holidays. Offenders people will always get caught. It is illegal by Thai law and it is frown upon by international standards.

If you use AIT internet to download copyrighted material, you also bring bad reputation to the Institute and may subject yourself to legal issues.

The Institute cannot tolerate that it's users download copyrighted material and every time such infringement is being reported to us, penalties must apply. This has been clearly explained during the various orientation that you attended, so no further warning will be provided and users will have their account suspended on the first offense.

On repeated violation, suspension may be for one month or more. Please note that during suspension, you will still be requested to pay the full UIA fee.

The case is real and while ten persons get suspended every week, currently two persons are currently under one month suspension. Students should note that the suspension will be reported in their student log card.

Lastly, you should really avoid using any peer to peer software, particularly Bittorrent: it makes the detection way too easy, even if you are not currently downloading, you could get caught for some movies that are located on your computer.
