OVERVIEW

“Regional Forum on Climate Change (RFCC) - Low Carbon and Climate Resilient Societies: Bridging Science, Practice, and Policy”, which will be held from 1st – 3rd July, 2015 at the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand. The event is jointly organized by the Asian Institute of Technology; French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development; ASEAN secretariat, and the European Union.

The main objective of the RFCC is two-fold. First, it aims to create a platform for engaging a variety of stakeholders from the ASEAN region in discussions on climate change related agenda in order to ease the translation of science into practice and policy. Second, it aspires to assist negotiators, policy makers and high-level advisers from ASEAN to benefit from the results of contemporary scientific research to carve climate change related policies in the long term, as well as to offer ASEAN negotiators a venue to build positions of increased ambition prior to the COP 21.

The RFCC will discuss a wide range of topics related to climate change, and thus welcomes participation from all sectors and streams. I will encourage you, and your organization, to participate in this Forum, and avail of this opportunity to both benefit, and contribute, to the multidisciplinary discussions and perspectives.

Please visit the “Call For Extended Abstracts” at: http://www.rfcc2015.ait.asia/Abstracts for themes and sub-themes and other details for submission of extended abstracts.

The RFCC will feature keynote speeches from renowned dignitaries like José Ramos-Horta (1996 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate). To add versatility to the proceedings, apart from regular presentations made by the participants on the identified themes of the RFCC, the Forum will also include a number of other special activities such as ‘round table discussions among ASEAN policy makers and scientific advisers’; ‘ASEAN Scholars Program (ASP); ‘COP 21 media training’; ‘side events and exhibition booths hosted by leading national and international organizations’; among others. A key feature of the Forum is the SCIENCE AND CLIMATE CHANGE – CALL FOR PROPOSALS, which will be announced during the Forum to fund scientific projects led by multinational teams.

Please note that the RFCC is also open to potential synergies with like-minded organizations in the region. If your organization wishes to be associated with this event, please contact AIT.
