Message from AIT President Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai

 

On January 30 I received the good news from HRH’s Private Secretary that HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has kindly accepted my invitation to serve as the Honorary Chair of the International Advisory Committee for the AIT Library Modernization. In addition, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has graciously granted her personal donation of 1 million Baht from 2007 to be used for the Library Modernization.

 

On behalf of AIT Community and friends, I would like to humbly express our gratitude for the support. As always, AIT has been blessed with the continuous support of its Royal Alumna.

SET welcomes two seconded faculty from India

 

AIT’s School of Engineering and Technology welcomes the following two new seconded faculty from India:

 

Dr. Rajesh Kumar Nema, a Visiting Professor, at Industrial Systems Engineering

(ISE) Programme, is a Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department of the M.A. National Institute of Technology (MANIT) Bhopal, India for the last 27 years. He earned his Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral, degrees from the Bhopal University, India, in the area of Electrical Engineering. Prof. Rajesh Kumar Nema has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed research papers for reputed International Journals and International Conferences. He has supervised 55 M.Tech and 11 Ph.D. scholars at MANIT Bhopal.

 

His teaching and research interests include: Power Controller, Microprocessors, 

Digital Signal Processors, Analog Electronics, and Solar Photovoltaics.

Dr. Ravipudi Venkata Rao, a Visiting Professor at Industrial Systems Engineering (ISE) Programme, is a Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department of the S. V. National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) Surat, India. He received his BTech degree from Nagarjuna University, MTech degree from BHU Varanasi, and PhD degree from BITS Pilani, India. He has about 25 years of teaching and research experience. He has authored about 300 research papers published in reputed international journals and conference proceedings. He has received many awards for his research works. He is also on the editorial boards of various international journals.

 

His research interests include advanced engineering optimisation techniques, fuzzy multiple attribute decision making, advanced manufacturing processes, automation and robotics.

 

Prof. Ravipudi Venkata Rao is seconded to AIT by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. During his stay at ISE/AIT, he will teach Inventory and Logistic Management (AT 72.09). SOM welcomes new seconded faculty from India

 

AIT’s School of Management (SOM) is pleased to welcome Dr. Anandakuttan B. Unnithan, Visiting Associate Professor seconded by the Government of India in this January 2015 semester.

 

Dr. Anandakuttan B. Unnithan (Anand) is an Associate Professor in Marketing Management area at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kozhikode. He holds the position of Chairperson, Management Development Programmes (MDP) at IIMK. Previously he has held administrative responsibilities like Chairperson of Post-Graduate Programme (PGP), Chairperson, Executive PGP, Chairperson and IIMK’s Kochi campus at IIM Kozhikode. He did his B-Tech in Production Engineering from the Government Engineering College Thrissur; MBA in Marketing and PhD in Consumer Behavior from Cochin University of Science and Technology, respectively.

SET Acting Dean

 

Prof. Voratas Kachitvichyanukul, Dean SET, will be on a mission to Vietnam from 30 January - 6 February 2015.  Prof. Pennung Warnitchai and Dr. Matthew N. Dailey have kindly agreed to serve as the Acting Dean as follows: Prof. Pennung Warnitchai will be Acting during 31 January - 3 February, 5 - 6 February 2015. Dr. Matthew N. Dailey will be Acting on 4 February 2015

 

 

Salary Structure and Positions Review Committee requests for views and suggestions on HR-initiated plan

 

In relation to the discussion of the AIT Management’s meetings on 18 November  2014 and 20 November 2014 to enhance the career progress of AIT employees, the Salary Structure and Positions Review Committee (SSPRC) was appointed on 11 December 2014, and it held its first meeting on 22 January 2015. Chaired by Prof. Sununta Siengthai of the School of Management, the Committee will be holding regular meetings till the finalization of its report. The Committee has been tasked to "review the current salary structure, as well as the proposed options to introduce steps (reflecting career progress) to the current salary structure."

 

The Committee comprises of the following members:

Dr. Jonathan L. Shaw as Staff Representative

The Committee is also expected to carry out the following tasks:

1. To review and set clear definitions and qualifications for positions (e.g. Manager, Coordinator, Head, Director, Executive Director, etc) and their placements at the salary structure levels.

2. To review and clarify professional titles and career paths.

3. To map out and align job roles in the context of the organizational structure, and standardise job levels, according to some factors and responsibilities (e.g. mission-criticality, supervisory responsibilities, problem solving etc.)

 

In order to engage members of AIT faculty and staff in this process of HR-initiated plan for better human resource management and development, SSPRC would like to invite all faculty and staff who wish to offer specific suggestions (within the purview of the Committee'sremit) to send them to the Committee before 12 February 2015 (date of the second meeting of the committee).

 

Your views and suggestions are welcome, and they will be placed before all members of the Committee for consideration,

 

The Committee shall submit its report to the AIT Management by 31 May 2015.

Beautiful Country - introduce your country & culture in your way

The AIT Student Union Media Committee is organizing “Beautiful Country” competition which is sponsored by Chinese Student Association to make the AIT SU forum popular among AIT community.

 

Rules are as follows:

 1) Only AIT students who already registered in the Forum can participate in the competition.

 2) Post to promote your country and culture (both picture and description) only in the respective Country Area specified in the forum. (www.aitsu.asia)

 3) Any posts containing video will be discarded & disqualified from the competition.

 4) Competition deadline - 28.01.2015 (00:01 AM) to 10.02.2015 (11:59PM)

 

Judging Criteria:

 1) Only the numbers of “Likes” (shown as support button in the forum) received by that post in the Forum.

Student Clubs Night

Student Clubs Night to be held at the AITCC is a fair that showcases all student-led activities at AIT from sports groups to peer-tutoring to interest clubs to cultural and religious associations.

 

New and returning students, faculty, and staff are invited to this FREE event to learn and be updated on all student activities. This will allow each group to show their presence on the campus, seek mentorship from faculty, promote upcoming events, register new members, and build partnerships with other clubs.
