(i) Blog Contest for Students: What Makes AIT Special?

Dear Students,
"What Makes AIT Special" is the theme of our blog contest this semester.
What is it that makes AIT so special? And what makes it unique? Is it the campus or is it the people? Or a combination of both?
Write a blog post for us, add a few photographs, give it a catchy headline, and mail it to us. The best entry will win a cash prize of 3000 THB, while the second and third entries get 2000 THB and 1000 THB each, The best entry will also be posted on the AIT website. Your entries will be judged for originality and creativity.
The ideal post ranges between 300-600 words, but we will not penalize if creativity demands that you violate these parameters.

(ii) Microsoft Imagine (formerly Dreamspark) expanded software offering

Microsoft Imagine (formerly) Dreamspark has recently been expanded its software offering with addition of software from sources other than Microsoft. In addition to selected Microsoft software offered at no costs, Microsoft Imagine has added, free IBM software for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) faculty/students, such as IBM Cloud and Watson, as well as large discounts from Adobe, VMware, Norton, Parallels, and other software (e.g. SPSS Statistics)

(iii) Applying for work permit

Dear non-Thai Faculty and Staff,
As we were informed by Employment Office that some of our non-Thai Faculty and Staff applied for work permit very late. Please be reminded that work permit must be applied for within 15 days after the commencement date of the contract. According to the law of Thailand, working without work permit will be subject to 2,000-100,000 Baht fine and will not be allowed for visa renewal.
Please contact Mr. Pipat at GRU immediately should you have not yet applied for work permit.
(iv) Announcement from the Social Security Office

Dear AIT Employees,
This is to kindly inform you that the Social Security Office will no longer issue a new Social Security card after the current SS cards expires on 31 December 2018.
You can still continue to avail the Social Security benefits by going to the hospital which you have registered with the Social Security Office and present to the hospital staff your passport as proof of your identification and your current social security number. For Thai employees, please present your Thai Identification Card only.
For SS members who wishes to change their current hospital, please contact OHRS until 15 March 2019.
Please be guided accordingly.

(a) Women’s Empowerment Organization Exhibition at AITCC: 29 Jan

A team of small-scale entrepreneurs from Dhaka, Bangladesh named “Women’s Empowerment Organization” is coming to Bangkok for an exhibition. They are going to arrange an exhibition at AIT Conference Center (AITCC) on 29 January 2019, at 1 pm onward. They will offer their handmade products for sale (Sharee, Salwar Kameez, cushion cover, bed sheet, and food and gift items).
(b) AIT Day in Nepal: 9 Feb. 2019
AIT will organize AIT DAY NEPAL 2019 as follows:
Date: 9 February 2019 (Saturday)
Venue: Hotel Himalaya, Kupondole, Lalitpur
Time: AIT Day Event - 8:30 am to 12:00pm
English Test - 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm
AIT invites all the interested students and parents in Nepal to participate in this AIT Day event. At the event, they will have the opportunity to meet the AIT President, Deans and Faculty of all three schools, School of Engineering & Technology, School of Environment, Resources and Development and School of Management, as well as AIT Alumni from Nepal and to learn more about AIT. They will also be briefed with the information about the admission and application procedure, scholarships and other information about AIT.
For the convenience of the prospective students, AIT will also organize an English Test in the afternoon session which the prospective students can use to apply in AIT.

(c) Blood Donation: 5 Mar. 2019
Email from AIT Medical Center (9 Jan. 2019)
The Thai Red Cross Society has been working with volunteer students and staff to collect units of blood from the AIT community. The bloodmobile visits AIT every three months, four times a year, hoping to collect enough units to supply the constant demand for blood.
We again would like to ask for your help. The next visit for blood donation is scheduled on Tuesday, 5th March 2019, 9:00 - 11:30 a.m. at the parking lot in front of the AIT Conference Center.
Give blood! You'll experience a fulfilling sense of contribution. And the donation process isn't time-consuming. It only takes about half an hour.
On behalf of needy patients whose lives you may save, we would like to thank you very much for your time and support.

(a) Thai Courses: Jan – Mar. 2019
The Language Center is pleased to announce the opening of Thai Courses for Beginners.
Survival Thai
The 7-week survival Thai course is an introduction to Thai languages which will cover basic words, phrases, daily and simple expressions and basic grammatical structures to communicate with Thais. The purpose of the course is to introduce participants to the principles and basic of Thai language as used in everyday conversation. Moreover, the course will prepare them to feel confident to communicate with Thais and feel at ease while staying in Thailand.

- Course fee: 2,000 baht
Thai Reading and Writing
This course is the introduction to reading and writing. It is the 7-week course that is designed for those who do not know how to read and write Thai language. The participants will practice reading letters and learn how to spell words and make up words.

(b) Professional Training Program on Advanced Shrimp Farming: 3 – 10 Mar. 2019
A professional training program on advanced shrimp farming will be organized by AIT Extension from 03-10 March 2019 at AIT.
“Advanced Shrimp Farming” is a one-week long professional training program, which has been designed to address not only the lack of know-how and issues with farming practices but also to meet the specific needs and requirements for the development of this venture in the region. The program will cover the state of the art of farming practices, existing good practices, innovation and advanced technologies in farming and shrimp healthcare along with planning and management of environmental issues with shrimp farming.

(i) Improvement project: Cleaning and Painting of Dorm J Building

Please be informed that subcontractor will start the improvement project at Dorm J, to clean and paint the exterior and corridors of the building.
Project has started on 12 October 2018 (Friday)
Expected to finish soon.
During this time there may be loud noise and dust around the area work. Residents of Dorm J are requested to close their doors and windows properly.
Apologies for any inconvenience that it may cause.
After this dorm, we will continue with dorm E and Dorm K, which will be announced later.
