Email from AIT President (18 Aug. 2019)
Dear Members of the AIT Community,
It is with sadness that we announce the passing away of Professor Gérard Saunier on Sunday, August 11, 2019.
Professor Saunier was seconded to AIT by the French Government during the presidency of Professor Alastair M North to lead the newly formed Energy Technology Division in 1979, and served as the first Chairman of the Division, and also taught Solar Energy.
Professor Saunier was instrumental in the development of the Energy Technology Division and in bringing resources, which included funds for the construction of the two Buildings in the Energy Program as well as the Energy Demonstration Park.
AIT is grateful to Professor Saunier for his key role in the formative years of the establishment of the energy program, and leadership in making the program flourish over the years.
Professor Saunier's colleagues and former students remember him fondly as a very charismatic and ebullient person. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Germaine Saunier.
