(iv) New Bridging Program price for potential candidates

Email from Language Center (11 Apr. 2019)

The Language Center is pleased to announce that the new price of the Bridging Program is now 25,000 Thai Baht for the same 8-week course duration (June-July). The proposed new price is to ensure that AIT continues to provide educational opportunities for students who possess academic standing that meets the AIT requirements but lack necessary prior exposure to English.

The Bridging program is an immersion program aiming to help incoming students to transition into the international and English-medium education at AIT. The program provides 3 main areas of training through talk-based and task-based approaches: academic English, research skills and intercultural communication skills.

The Bridging Program targets:

-applicants who possess good academic standing but can only obtain the English Entry score of 4.5, who will then be able to improve to at least 5.0 by the end of July which will ensure their eligibility for the August entry, and
-applicants who obtain the English score of 5.0 or 5.5 who, though already eligible for entry, can improve their score by at least 0.5 point before the August semester and thus have a higher chance to fulfill the English requirements and start their thesis process on time.

Important Notes:
• The minimum entry score to the Bridging Program for Master’s applicants is 4.5.
• The minimum entry score to the Bridging Program for Doctoral applicants is 5.0.
The program runs June 3 – July 26, 2019
Time: 9:00 to 16:00 Monday to Friday

Students must commit themselves to the 6-hour-a-day / 5-day-a-week schedule of the program to ensure successful completion of the program.
Application deadline for the program: May 23, 2019
To apply: email your applicant’s information (Full name, field applied, email address) to us at languages@ait.ac.th

(vi) Reminder: Securing your computer

Email from AIT Helpdesk (30 Apr. 2019)

Dear users

To ensure the security of your computer system and the whole AIT network, it is necessary that you regularly update your operating system and other software as well as install/update your antivirus software and signature. However, in order to be able to regularly update your software, you must use genuine software (licensed, free to use, open source) only. Pirated software will not get updated.

Please use the following guidelines:

1. Windows Operating System
Use only genuine and supported Windows Operating System. Outdated/unsupported windows system (e.g. Windows XP) is no longer updated and thus it is highly vulnerable and should not be used. Genuine Windows Operating system is available from Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching for every AITian as well as from Campus Volume Licensing (for faculty, staff, labs only). Also activate Windows automatic update.

2. Install and activate Antivirus software. Windows Defender (bundled with Windows 8.1 and up) or Microsoft Security Essentials (for Windows 7, which can be freely downloaded) should be enough to provide you with virus protection. Those software will be updated during Windows Update process. Please refer to https://helpdesk.ait.ac.th/faq/ (Q: Has Windows operating system a built-in antivirus software?) for more details.
If you use other antivirus software, please make sure that your license is still active.

3. Update other software you use as soon as it becomes available. As long as the software is genuine (licensed, free to use such as Adobe Reader, as well as open source), you can always get it updated

4. Uninstall highly vulnerable software such as Adobe Flash from your computer

If you need more information, please contact Helpdesk.
