WEEK# 42, 18 - 24 October, 2021
In this issue:
1) Extraordinary Leave and Updates from the AIT COVID-19 Task Force
Email from the Director, Office of Academic Administration on 13 October 2021.
Dear AIT Family,
The Government of Thailand is easing more restrictions and further opening up the country. There was already a reduction on October 1 in quarantine days, as stated in our last Task Force email. And just the other day, in the Prime Minister’s address, it was mentioned that “…fully vaccinated visitors from low-risk countries will be allowed to enter the Kingdom without quarantine from 1 November 2021…”. More details are forthcoming.
The opening up measures dovetail with the Government’s very aggressive vaccination campaign with more than 700,000 shots being administered each day, and sometimes even exceeding one million. More than 48% of the country has already received a first dose. We will be monitoring the situation closely and make very cautious adjustments to AIT’s own measures, taking into account upcoming announcements from the Thai Government and the overall COVID-19 situation.
Online classes and Work-from-Home (WFH) – Online classes and Work-from-Home (WFH) will continue until 31 October 2021, or until further notice.
Reduced Contracted Services – Reduced service by contractors on campus will continue until 31 October.
Extraordinary Leave – According to the Institute’s Policy Guidance on Working Arrangements in the Context of COVID-19, Extraordinary Leave status may be granted in view of personal extenuating circumstances of employees requesting to work remotely from a specific alternate location outside Thailand, for as long as presence in Thailand or at AIT campus is not required.
With the improvement in the pandemic situation in Thailand and other countries, with travel restrictions easing worldwide, and with the likelihood of the resumption of in-person / hybrid classes and employees returning to office soon, starting with applications dated on 1 November, we are amending the length of Extraordinary Leave status to not be longer than one month per calendar year. Please be reminded that a request for Extraordinary Leave status needs to be evaluated and authorized by the applicable immediate supervisor(s) – Academic Program Chair / Unit Manager, Head of Department, School Dean / Center/Office Director, and relevant Vice President – as well as obtaining the approval of the AIT COVID-19 Task Force for international travel, before it can be considered for special approval by the AIT President to work remotely and discharge functions from an alternate location outside Thailand.
Although restrictions are currently being eased in Thailand, we urge all of you to be very careful and continue with the D-M-H-T-T-A precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19, i.e. D–Distancing, M–Mask wearing, H–Hand washing, T–Temperature check, T–Testing for COVID-19, and A–Alert application. The numbers of positive cases are going down, but the pandemic still very much exists in Thailand.
Please check with the Task Force if you have any queries and also visit the Intranet page where all COVID-19 related information and updates from the Task Force are available.
Thank you for your cooperation.
