Distinguished Adjunct Faculty Seminar by Dr. Bindu Lohani

Distinguished Adjunct Faculty Seminar will be delivered by Dr. Bindu Lohani entitled, “Technological Challenges and Opportunities in Addressing Climate Resilience Smart Cities”

Dr. Bindu Lohani is currently the Head of Global Climate Change Practice, Centennial Group, USA; Distinguished Fellow, Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), Japan; and Chief Advisor, K water and Founding Member, Asian Water Council, Korea.

Dr. Lohani is a distinguished AIT alumnus, who served as Chairman and Associate Professor of the Division of Environmental Engineering at AIT, prior to joining ADB. Dr. Lohani is a current member of the AIT Board of Trustees.

Dr. Lohani was Ranking Vice-President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for Knowledge Management and Sustainable Development until 30 June 2015. He was responsible for the ADB’s Economic Research and Regional Cooperation Department (Office of the Chief Economist), Sustainable Development and Climate Change Department, and Office of Information Systems and Technology.

Before the above position, Dr. Lohani was Vice-President (Finance and Administration) of ADB.  Dr. Lohani also served as Chair of Investment Committee of the Pension Fund (more than $2 billion); Chair of Asset Liability Management Committee; and Chair of Crisis Management Committee.

A special talk on "Water Resources by the End of the Century in Mountains with Declining Snow and Ice" by a Nobel Prize Winner, Prof. Martin Beniston 

Prof. Martin Beniston, from the University of Geneva, Switzerland, will be visiting AIT on 5 February 2016 to deliver a special talk on "Water Resources by the end of the Century in Mountains with Declining Snow and Ice". 

Prof. Martin specializes in climate impact research, and was part of the IPCC team that was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.

He is currently a full professor at the University of Geneva and Director of its Institute for Environmental Sciences. A renowned authority in climate research, he has close to 180 publications in international literature (h factor: 48), and is the editor / associate editor of several journals and book series with international publishers. SET welcomes new visiting faculty members seconded from India

School of Engineering and Technology (SET) welcomes two visiting faculty members -- Dr. Balkrishna Eknath Narkhede and Dr. Mukesh Kumar Barua who joined Industrial Systems Engineering Field of Study as Visiting Associate Professors in January 2016.

They are seconded to AIT by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

Dr. Mukesh Kumar Barua, is currently visiting Associate Professor at School of Engineering and Technology, AIT Bangkok, and Associate Professor, Department of Management Studies. IIT Roorkee. He is also a Visiting Professor at Defense Engineering College, FDRE’s Metals and Engineering Corporation, Ethiopia.  He holds a Ph.D. in Supply Chain Management from IIT Madras, an M. Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Madras, and a B.E. in Industrial and Production Engineering from SGSITS Indore, India. He has 21 years of teaching and research experience at IIT Roorkee and SGSITS Indore.

His areas of interest include Operations Research, Operations Management, Quality Control, Project Management, Business Statistics, Multivariate Techniques (Discriminant Analysis, Factor Analysis, Cluster Analysis, Structural Equation Modeling), and Marketing research.

He has organized more than 15 MDP and FDP at IIT R and other Engineering and Management Institutes.

He also completed a project on “Development of quantitative techniques laboratory” sponsored by IIT Roorkee. Completed a project on “Study of Pharmaceutical Supply Chain” sponsored by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

He has guided 7PhD theses, 2 independently and 5 jointly, 15 ME and 8 BE theses, currently guiding 5 PhD scholars.

Dr. Barua has organized several conferences in recent years as follows:

- International Conference on "Research and Sustainable Business" jointly Sheffield Business School (UK) and Department of Management Studies, IIT Roorkee, during December 4-6, 2015 at NOIDA campus of IIT Roorkee.

- International Conference of the Department of Management Studies, IIT Roorkee, on “Research and Sustainable Business" on March 8-9, 2014.

-  A National Conference of the Department of Management Studies, IIT Roorkee, on “Emerging Challenge for Sustainable Business” on June 1-2, 2012.

During his stay at ISE/AIT, Dr. Mukesh Kumar Barua will be teaching Deterministic Sequencing and Scheduling (AT 72.10) in the January 2016 semester. Dr. Balkrishna Eknath Narkhede received his Ph.D. (Mechanical Engineering) degree from University of Mumbai, India. His undergraduate degree is in Production & Industrial Engineering from SGGS Institute of Engineering & Technology Nanded, India (Govt Autonomous Institute) and he holds a master’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Visvesvarayya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur, India. He has also completed FDPM from Indian Institute of Management, Indore, India.

He is Associate Dean (Resource Mobilization & Finance) at Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), Mumbai, India. He is also a Visiting Faculty at the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) Mumbai, India. He is editing Industrial Engineering Journal published by Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering since 2009.

His research interests are Industrial Engineering and Management particularly Operations Strategy, Supply Chain Management, Project Management, Entrepreneurship.

AIT Distinguished Researcher Awards: DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION IS 29 JANUARY 2016

The "AIT Distinguished Researcher Awards 2016" was established last year to recognize the valuable contributions and professional accomplishments of AIT Faculty and Staff in research.

The awards have two categories namely:

1. AIT Research Leader Award

2. AIT Young Researcher Award

Applications can be submitted to the Vice President for Research Prof. Kanchana Kanchanasut at email: vpresearch@ait.ac.th  by Friday 29 January, 2016.

 

Call for Papers for the 19th International Society for Business Innovation and Technology Management Conference

The 2016 19th International Society for Business Innovation and Technology Management Conference on Corporate Sustainability in Business Decision Making Model will be held in Bangkok Thailand from June 12-14, 2016.

Authors wishing to submit a paper should send an abstract to the Secretariat, ml.tseng@mail.lhu.edu.tw on or before March 12, 2016

Τhe outstanding papers will be recommended for entry to various journals, including Resources, Conservation, and Recycling (SCI); J of Cleaner Production (SCI), J of APBITMS, Progress of BITM, and other SCI Journals.

Contact Information Update, Medical Reimbursement Procedure and AIT Plastic ID Card

A gentle reminder for AIT faculty and staff members on the following matters:

1. Contact Information in HRIS

It is imperative that we have a correct record of your personal data in our system. Information such as name of contact person and telephone numbers are very important especially during emergencies. There are still employees who have not provided the above information. Please log in the web link, https://hris.ait.ac.th  to update your contact information. Use your AIT email account credential to log in then click “View Employee Profile” and complete the fields in the “Contact Information”.

2.  Medical Reimbursement

Please be reminded that in order to process your medical reimbursement, you must submit the medical receipt and medical certificate showing the diagnosis and date of consultation to the Human Resources Office within 60 days after the consultation. Reimbursement submitted later than 60 days will not be accepted.

3. AIT Plastic ID Card

For permanent employees and those on contracts of one or more years, a plastic AIT ID card can be availed from the Human Resources Office.

If you still have not changed your laminated paper ID card, please visit the Human Resources Office to have your photo and electronic signature taken.  The plastic AIT ID cards will be ready within three (3) working days.

Your plastic AIT ID cards can be used to borrow books from the AIT Library, as well as serve as a cash card in the AIT Cafeteria.

Bicycle Sticker

Please be informed that bicycle sticker are available at security office located at gate-1. Office of Facilities and Asset Management (OFAM) encourages the AIT community, especially the new students to take the sticker for their bicycles.

Benefits:

- In case if the bicycle with sticker is lost, security officer can help to identify the lost bicycle easily

- Security can also identify the outsiders easily entering the campus from gate-1 & gate-2

Procedure to take the sticker:

1. Present your AIT ID card to the AIT Cashier located in Admin Building and pay Baht 20 for the bicycle sticker

2. Bring the original receipt and copy of AIT ID card to security officer at gate-1 to claim for the sticker
