(i)    INTERNATIONAL CENTER FOR SUSTAINABLE AQUACULTURE AT AIT ON THE MOVE

Email from AIT President

25 October 2016

Today, I have had the honor to meet H.E. Mr. Prapat Panyachatraksa, Former Minister of Agriculture and Chairman of National Farmers Council (NFC), along with Dr Krishna Salin, AIT Faculty in Aquaculture and Mr. Ratthanin Sangsayan, AIT Doctoral Student. The lunch meeting was also attended by Mr. Pinyo Kiatpinyo, Chair-Advisory Board of NFC, Mr. Daecha of Thai Organic Shrimp Farming Group, and Mr. Pokin Chuncharoen, CEO of PKK Hachery.

The meeting was a follow-up of my earlier attendance of the Aquatainment Workshop in August, which left me with a good impression on "Aquamimicry Technology" and its vast potential for mankind. I have offered AIT as its academic partner in order to help promote this "Aquaculture Paradigm Shift".

Aquamimicry cultures shrimps by mimicking the natural living of shrimps with minimum use of commercial feed and all kinds of chemicals, which creates toxic environment.

Today lunch meeting was convened to follow up the joint interest to establish the International Center for Sustainable Aquaculture at AIT (ICSA@AIT). I was very happy to have received a strong blessing from H.E. Prapat, Chairman of NFC on this venture. He endorsed my proposal for AIT to host the test-bed, research and training center of Aquamimicry Shrimp Farming Innovation.

The next step will be a formal signing of MOU for collaborations among the partners: (1) National Farmers Council of Thailand; (2) Thai Chamber of Commerce; (3) Thailand's Shrimp Farming Industry; (4) Kasetsart University; (5) Mahidol University; (6) NSTDA; (7) NACA; and (8) AIT.

As this project will be proposed as a part of Thailand's Food Innopolis, the meeting agreed to extend an invitation to the Minister of Science and Technology, H.E. Dr. Pichet Durongkaveroj, to chair the signing ceremony.

(ii)     AITians invited to discuss AIT's new Vision
