Dear students,

Warm greetings! Please note that the Student Welfare Unit of the Office of Student Affairs is responsible for all non-academic matters relating to students. In a multinational environment and campus like AIT, the role and function of the Student Welfare Unit is to advise and counsel students on:

1. Student Welfare Matters

Student welfare matters can comprise: gender related matters and the strict no harassment policy on campus; personal counseling; dispute mediation, and any other problem that a student may wish to seek advice on.

2. Code of Conduct at AIT

i. No Harrassment Policy on Campus

Given the unique diversity of the Institute community, AIT must develop special awareness and sensitivity to deter or respond to the problem of sexual harassment.

This is as per Student Handbook, pg. 25, “1.3 Sexual harassment includes unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other physical, oral or written conduct or visual manifestations of a sexual nature.”

This is to inform explicitly and clearly that any form of harassment, including voyeurism, will not be tolerated.

If any student gets to experience any form of harassment, please report immediately through email report@ait.ac.th. Any student who will be reported harassing someone within the campus will face disciplinary action and details of the misconduct will be noted in the student's record.

ii. Stealing, shoplifting or theft of any kind is a serious criminal offense punishable under Thai law. The ramifications could be significant financial penalties and/or imprisonment.

Strict observance of the laws of Thailand is mandatory for all. All students are strongly reminded to observe proper conduct inside and outside of AIT. Any student who will be reported or caught committing any unlawful action within or outside the campus could also face immediate dismissal from the Institute.

AIT cannot and will not intervene with the appropriate penalties according to the law of Thailand if any case is filed to the Royal Thai Police. Moreover, the Institute is not in any way obliged to provide financial or legal support to the concerned student. Unfortunately, AIT cannot and will not intervene with the legal processes of Thailand, as applicable to any criminal case

As students of AIT, and ambassadors of your country, you are expected to show moral integrity to uphold the good reputation of the Institute and project a good impression of your country. As short-term guests in your adopted home, we look forward to your compliance of the AIT regulations and laws of Thailand.

2. NOT cooking in non-cooking dorms

3. NOT smoking

4. NOT having pets/cats/dogs

Also beware of possible online scams with fake job ads in social media, job scams, sales scams, dating/romance scams, phishing emails and the like.

3. Feeling of Academic Inadequacy

In cases where students are not doing well academically (especially students on probation), students are advised to consult very closely with their Advisors and Faculty on how to improve their studies. However, if reasons for poor academic performance are due to various factors outside academic/technical reasons, i.e. traumatic events old or new; adjustments to a new country, food and culture; homesickness, etc., further advice on how to improve performance can be provided by the Student Welfare Unit.

As part of our ongoing commitment to fostering a safe and respectful workplace for all, we are now excited to announce the upcoming launch of our Harassment Prevention Training Program.

The Harassment Prevention Training Program plays a pivotal role in ensuring that our work environment remains conducive to growth, collaboration, and mutual respect. By equipping employees with the knowledge and tools to recognize, address, and prevent harassment, we aim to create a workplace where everyone feels secure and valued.

This training initiative is not only designed to empower individuals to respond effectively to harassment situations but also to highlight the collective responsibility we share in upholding a harmonious and inclusive atmosphere. Thank you for your participation, knowing that together we can create a workplace that reflects the highest standards of integrity, equality, and professionalism.

7) Performance Evaluation 2023-2024 Phase 1

Email Office of Human Resources Services on 17 July 2023

To all Immediate Supervisors, Unit Directors of Centrally-Funded Staff Members and Centrally-Funded Staff Members,

The Performance Evaluation Tool for 2023-2024 is now open. The online system can be accessed through HRIS (https://hris.ait.ac.th). It is important to remember that setting performance goals should be a shared responsibility between the immediate supervisor and the employee that builds commitment and ownership. It sets the stage for effective communication regarding expectations that are mutually understood. Performance management starts with clearly defined goals and objectives, it must be specific to the role and responsibilities of an employee.

Please follow these steps below to successfully complete the Performance Evaluation process online for PHASE I.

A. For Employees

It is highly suggested that each staff have an initial discussion with their immediate supervisor and look for guidance on how your contribution fits into the overall vision, strategies, and goals of the institution and what are the expectations of your immediate supervisor that need to be achieved.

Click "Employee Evaluation" then follow the following steps.
Click the PE Cover Form
Set the date of your meeting with your immediate supervisor and click submit.
Click the Goal Setting Strategy. In this section, you can write your goals, then click save. If you could not complete writing your goals you can always return to this page to complete it. Make sure you complete this task before your meeting.
Discuss your goals on the scheduled date with your immediate supervisor. Once the goals are agreed upon, you can then revise/modify the goals on the system and click submit. Note that you cannot edit your goals once they are submitted.

B. For Immediate Supervisors (Evaluators)

All goals need to be aligned to the Institute’s vision and strategies, as well as the departmental/unit goals. As the immediate supervisor, it is your responsibility to help your subordinates understand how their work directly links to the departmental/unit goals. It is critical that your subordinates understand the importance of their role and how they contribute to the success of the Institute. Knowing how one contributes increases levels of engagement and motivation.

You will be notified once your subordinates have set the date of your meeting. Please make yourself available on that date and be prepared to discuss the goals with your subordinates.
To view the goals submitted by your subordinates, click "Supervisor Evaluation" and click "APR" next to the name of your subordinates. Goals should be discussed with your subordinates on the scheduled date. However, if for some reason the scheduled date is not followed, the date of the meeting should be changed to the actual date that the meeting takes place.
After the employee-supervisor discussion meeting, you can write your comment on the box provided. Your comments can be short, e.g. goals discussed and agreed. Phase I will not be successfully completed in there are no entries in the comments section. Click "SUBMIT" to complete Phase I.
Please complete Phase I by August 31, 2023.

The Performance Evaluation Guide and the Quick Guide are also downloadable in HRIS for easy reference.

Should you encounter technical problems, please report them to Helpdesk (helpdesk@ait.asia). Please convey other feedback to OHRS (director-ohrs@ait.asia).

Thank you.

2) Online Course on IFRS Series: Understanding IFRS 17 (Insurance Contract)

IFRS 17 replaces IFRS 4 on accounting for insurance contracts. IFRS 17 is effective for annual reporting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2023. However, each country will differ in terms of the effective date of adopting IFRS 17. For example, IFRS 17 would be effective from 1 January 2024 in Thailand and from 1 January 2025 in Indonesia. The financial services authorities of each country encourages the insurance industry to adopt IFRS 17 as soon as possible. The features in insurance products are increasingly diverse which entails a sound accounting standards. IFRS 17 will make the Financial Statements of insurance companies more comparable with other industries such as banking and other financial services. The most significant thing in IFRS 17 compared to the previous standard IFRS 4 is that the premiums are not recognized directly as income. There are 3 methods of revenue recognition in the insurance industry, namely the Building Block Approach, Premium Allocation Approach, and Variable Fee Approach.
