1) Empowering Small-Scale Farming Families: Bridging Research with Sustainable Solutions

Date and Time: 16 October 2023, 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Venue: S101, SERD, AIT

Background:

Asia's agricultural landscape, largely dominated by small-scale farmers, faces a myriad of challenges. Addressing these challenges requires innovative solutions rooted in research, nature-based interventions, and global collaborations. AIT, through its Natural Resources Management (NRM) program under SERD, has been at the forefront of such research. Similarly, ECHO, a global Christian technical resourcing and networking organization, driven by its logo of "Hope Against Hunger," has been pioneering in introducing sustainable techniques and technologies to uplift farming communities for the past 42 years.

Aim of the Seminar:

This seminar aims to create a nexus between academic research and practical interventions in sustainable agriculture. By showcasing AIT's research initiatives alongside ECHO's transformative efforts, we aspire to foster a platform for mutual learning, discussions on scalable solutions, and the exploration of potential collaborative ventures.

Scope:  The seminar will touch upon:

Research and Academic Excellence: Emphasizing the role of research, especially as conducted by AIT's NRM program, in formulating sustainable solutions for rural challenges.

On-Ground Impact: Understanding ECHO's strategies and their direct impacts on the lives of small-scale farming families across Asia and around the world.

Collaborative Dialogues: Engaging in a discourse to identify synergies between research and practical interventions, setting the stage for future collaborations.

Main Agenda:

Introduction to NRM, SERD, AIT by Prof. Rajendra Shrestha (5 minutes)

Recent Research by NRM program by Prof. Nophea Sasaki (15 minutes)

Empowering Small-Scale Farming Families: The ECHO Journey by Dr. Abram J. Bicksler, President/CEO of ECHO (30 minutes)

Q and A (15 minutes)

Idea Exchange (20 minutes)

Mendeley is a reference manager that you can use to generate citations and bibliographies for your research papers. You can search for documents from online databases/websites or input bibliographic details manually into your personal library on Mendeley. Mendeley will automatically cite your documents from Mendeley to your Word document with just a few clicks.

AIT uses the APA 7th edition as its reference format.

If you encounter any issues with registration for this workshop, please contact us by replying to this email.

We look forward to seeing you at the workshop.

4) Updates from the Impact Rankings Team

Dear faculty and staff,

Some short updates from the AIT-SUPOT team for AIT impact rankings:

1. We will be launching the SDG impact ranking evidences https://ait.ac.th/the-ranking-2024-evidences which will compile all the evidences and increase visibility for reviewers and outsiders as well, just like how Chula, KMUTT, Mahidol, etc. do. Aside, we will be launching https://ait.ac.th/sustainability which will document all SDG-related activities. (Special thanks to Mr. Sanjeet and Mr. Dipesh for the website).

2. We have dispatched emails to unit directors, center directors, admin leads, and deans/department heads. Please kindly submit your evidence by October 20th, 2023 to whomever sent you the email, or you can directly reply this email. Evidence can be simply pictures/description of some activity you have organized. Please don’t submit publications because it will be automatically fetched from Scopus. Your evidence is critical to our ranking otherwise untold. Just submit to us, and we will sort them by ourselves to relevant SDGs.

3. We have to submit all evidences to Times Higher Education, by November 10, 2023, so we need a lot of time to rank the top-2 evidences for each indicator, as well as putting them nicely onto the website for reviewers. So kindly submit your evidence by October 20th, 2023.

4. We have discussed and will launch a dashboard to track our sustainability goals, e.g., carbon emission, recycled waste. In some department, we are improving, but some we are not. This dashboard will help us bring awareness which is first step toward changes. This dashboard can also be used to talk to investors/boards to bring changes. But please be patient, we need some time to put everything together.

5. Someone asked us why AIT is not participating in THE university ranking. This is because AIT does not teach undergraduate.

5) ScienceDirect Quiz: Join now through October 31, 2023

AIT Library is delighted to invite you to participate in the Science Direct Online Quiz, which will run from now until October 31, 2023. By correctly answering all the questions, you'll have a chance to win the following prizes:

6) AIT NSTDA Friendship Bridge Architectural Design Competition - Unleash Your Creativity!

Email from the Director of OSC on 22 September 2023.

Dear AIT Community and Partner Organizations,

We are delighted to announce the launch of the AIT NSTDA Friendship Bridge Architectural Design Competition, a significant step in our journey towards sustainability and our vision of transforming AIT into a fully-fledged botanical garden campus, with a Net Zero target by 2030.

A crucial element of this transformative endeavor is the construction of a signature Wooden Bridge that will strategically link AIT to the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) Thailand Science Park. AIT is situated adjacent to the NSTDA Thailand Science Park, Thailand's largest science and technology research park, and in close proximity to Thammasat University. With the current AIT status of a 'Science and Technology Park' by the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), the Wooden Bridge project symbolizes our commitment to fostering collaboration, innovation, and sustainability by physically connecting our campus to NSTDA. We aim to invite Thailand's top scientists, enterprises, and entrepreneurs to actively participate in our sustainable campus initiatives.

We invite all architects, designers, and creative minds to participate in the AIT NSTDA Friendship Bridge Architectural Design Competition. This competition provides a unique platform for you to showcase your innovative and sustainable bridge designs. We encourage you to consider not only the functional aspects but also the aesthetic and environmental dimensions of the bridge. The flyer is attached for your reference.

Please feel free to forward this invitation to the prospective designers who might be interested in participating in the design competition.
