1) Appointment of Mr. Thomas Bain as Acting Dean, School of Management

Dear AIT Family,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Thomas Bain as the Acting Dean of the School of Management with effect from 4 October 2023 until 31 March 2024.  In addition to his role as Acting Dean, Mr. Bain will also contribute as Adjunct Faculty. 

Mr. Bain is the Managing Director of Bain Leadership Advisors Ltd. based in Hong Kong. Furthermore, he serves as an Adjunct Professor at both the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. 

Mr. Bain's exceptional track record, bridging academia and the professional world, coupled with his skills that align seamlessly with the strategic objectives of the School of Management, instills confidence that he is well-equipped to fulfill the responsibilities of this role. 

Join me in extending a warm welcome to Mr Bain as he becomes an integral part of the AIT family. Let's collectively provide him with the support and encouragement to excel in this position.

4) The 3rd International Symposium on Disaster Resilience and Sustainable Development (DRSD 2023)

The 3rd International Symposium on Disaster Resilience and Sustainable Development (DRSD 2023) is a continuation of previous symposia held in 2019 and 2021 and which were heralded as successful events. This year, DRSD 2023 will be a fully in-person event which will include keynote speeches, panel discussions, technical sessions, poster presentations and academic exhibitions.

The Symposium is open for participants from around the world and from various fields, such as researchers, practitioners, social motivators, innovators, IGOs, INGO/NGOs, civil society, early career academics, and students. The International Symposium aims to present a discourse on improving developmental practices to reduce long-term complex risks and promote equitable sustainability. This is reflected in the Symposium's six (6) thematic areas.
